And you made it here. There’s an urge to break away from the prescribed life and pursue true happiness on your own terms. We know that feeling. We’ve been there! It’s how we’re doing things differently that makes our lives, drenched with true happiness, a reality.
We want to help you become self-aware, realize your purpose, and feel empowered to make changes in your life to reach true happiness, fueled by financial independence.
But first, let us introduce ourselves…
I’m Mrs. Enchumbao.
I’m a salsa-dancing, globe-trotting, people-watching ball of energy. I challenge the status quo and empower others to do the same.
And I’m Mr. Enchumbao.
I’m a lifelong learner, writer, fountain of optimism, the boxer that keeps getting up!
We believe that no matter what financial background you come from, you can enjoy life’s greatest treasures if you’re up for the challenge.
We stand for a simple and efficient life that hits the spot.
We Also Believe:
In thinking differently, diverting our paths from the masses, evolving as humans.
That financial independence is key to unlocking the door to happiness.
That true happiness doesn’t come from material possessions. It’s the simple moments and pleasant memories with your loved ones that really count.
That we have way more control of our lives than we think. If we handle our lives in better ways, we can avoid many mishaps.
That you can start to turn your life around 180 degrees the minute that you decide to take real control of your destiny.
That life is easier when we learn from others’ mistakes instead of our own.
That random misfortunes that come into our lives are not because we deserve them. Instead of accepting defeat, we must get up and keep trying.
That we deserve to live our lives on our own terms.
And guess what? We are doing it and so can you!
Enchumbao is an expression of our journey. The word derives from “enchumbado” in Spanish. It means “drenched”. Why not choose to pursue a lifestyle overflowing with true happiness?
What Brings Mrs. Enchumbao Here?
Ever since I was little, I was different. I didn’t care what people did or thought – I marched to the beat of my own drum. I was not afraid to challenge authority. I would stand up for someone or something, if it felt right and just. Some people in my life mistook this for selfishness at times, however, they eventually realized that I just had a very strong sense of who I was and what made me happy. My goal is to help share this internal strength and drive with others.
I have been an unofficial life coach to many friends and family members, and I plan to share my realizations with you, with the hope that it helps you get to know yourself better, love yourself and live for yourself. That, my friend, is the ultimate happiness.
I have always known what made me happy, now I just have a partner in crime, Mr. Enchumbao, to share it with. But let me be clear, my motto is: “Do whatever makes me happy”, and let others come into my life to compliment it. I do not change the rotation of my world because of someone. Instead, I can choose to extend the invitation to get onto the band wagon with me.
What Brings Mr. Enchumbao Here?
Expressing myself through written words has always been in my veins. My urge to express my thoughts in writing stemmed from writing for my college newspaper back in Rhode Island. That passion later turned into a larger-scale ambition. In 2001, I launched a bilingual publication in NYC with a partner. Coincidentally, the magazines were to hit the newsstands on September 11 and got stuck en-route as New York City was under a terrorist attack! Moving forward with the business was tough as the country faced war and a recession following the attacks.
Aside from that awful beginning, launching the magazine was a tremendous experience overall, in which I got to meet many Latino celebrities and work with influential members of the community. After four years of entrepreneurship and a burnout, I found myself at a crossroad and decided to sell my part of the business and move to Pennsylvania. It was a life-altering decision!
Living in PA has opened doors to many wonderful opportunities and there will be many stories to share from this part of my journey in this blog. Shortly after the move, I landed a full-time job and found myself getting sucked into the trap of the so-called “American Dream”.
After a couple of years of living that lifestyle, a turning-point event made me realize that I was trading my life’s most precious treasures for things that didn’t bring me happiness, and that I needed to change course. I turned the ship 180 degrees and, now, I’m living the happiest years of my life, according to my own beliefs and not the bullshit that society dictates.
I met my soulmate while living in PA. If it wasn’t for the twists and turns of fate, I probably would have never met her. I’m sure we’ll get to some of those stories later. She has been the biggest inspiration in this journey.
After a 10-year pause from publishing, I decided to continue writing with this blog. The biggest difference this time is that publishing has a very organic feel, influenced mainly by our own life experiences. I hope that during this Enchumbao adventure we can inspire you to pursue a more fulfilling lifestyle. We do things very differently here. We want to share with you our formula for a happy and purposeful life! And, we’re so looking forward to learning from you in the process.
A few more random nuggets about us
- I am a Leo and an ENTJ. Shocking, I know! I am not afraid to take control of a situation and lead the jungle.
- I have a sixth sense for genuineness, so I don’t hesitate to weed out the BSers, who try to approach me in life.
- I was born in Belarus and grew up in Lithuania during the Soviet times, so logically, I used to say that I am Russian. That’s my first language, at least. After studying abroad in Spain, becoming a salsa-dancing addict, and marrying a Dominican, I now refer to myself as a Russian Latina.
- I love natural highs, like amazing sex, mouth-watering food, salsa dancing, and sleeping, so my lifelong goal is to identify these highs and enjoy them to the fullest.
- If I could help it, my life would consist of my natural highs in gorgeous places around the world, with a beach, a hammock and a piña colada always at the ready!
- I’m a Capricorn and an ISTJ. I often need to remember to pat people on the back, especially my wife. 🙂
- I love dealing with honest individuals and having deep conversations about life.
- I was born in the Dominican Republic.
- I love going to concerts.
- I love music and find the process of making it, including song-writing and playing, magical.
And when I’m not working at my day job, there’s a good chance you’ll find me:
Writing for Enchumbao, tracking our “FIRE” path, cooking a delicious meal, traveling for leisure, laying by the beach, reading, “minting”, watching a Korean drama with the wifey (it’s been fascinating learning about this culture), doing things that involves music and dancing, spending time with family and friends, or just taking a moment to relax and reflect on life.
